- Description
- The cultures of many premodern Asian societies incorporated medical traditions with textual expressions of considerable antiquity. These range from the Galenic-Islamic medicine of West Asia and North India, through the Ayurvedic and Siddha medical traditions of South Asia to traditional Chinese medicine, and include the traditional Tibetan medicine discussed here and in Chapters 10 and 11 of this book. One of the problems with gaining a clear perspective on these traditions, however, is the distance which often exists between the tradition as practised, and the theory given in the texts.
